Worcester Bosch Error 1101 and How to Fix It?
If you've spotted error 1101 on your Worcester Bosch boiler, you're probably wondering what’s gone wrong. The good news? There's a few simple fixes you can try out for yourself before needing to call one of our emergency heating engineers.
Let's break down what error code 1101 means and how to fix it. Hopefully, you’ll be back up and running in just a few minutes!
What Does Worcester Bosch Error 1101 Mean?
Error 1101 indicates a communication problem between your boiler and thermostat. Essentially, your boiler and thermostat aren't talking to each other properly. When these two components can't communicate, your boiler doesn’t know when to heat your home or to what temperature.
It can be caused by low thermostat batteries, power-cuts, or signal interference issues from things like walls or signals from other devices.
This problem is particularly common with wireless thermostats, though it can also affect wired thermostats. Whilst the 1101 error code can temporarily stop your boiler from heating your home correctly, it doesn’t indicate a major fault. You can usually troubleshoot a 1101 error yourself, so try these simple fixes before calling an engineer.

Simple Fixes You Can Try First
Check your thermostat's display - if it appears dim, doesn’t light up, or shows a low battery warning, the thermostat may not have enough power to send a signal to your boiler. Most wireless thermostats use standard AA or AAA batteries. Replace them with fresh batteries (not the ones out the back of the TV remote) and give your system a few minutes to re-establish communication. The error code may clear automatically.
If new batteries haven't solved the problem, resetting your Worcester Bosch boiler is the next step. This simple process can clear communication glitches:
- Turn off your boiler using the main switch or control panel
- Wait for approximately 60 seconds
- Turn the boiler back on
- Allow the system a few minutes to restart and reconnect with the thermostat
This fix only applies to wireless thermostats, but the positioning of your thermostat can affect communication between devices. Consider where your thermostat is positioned. Is it in a different room to your boiler? Are there multiple thick walls between them? Have you recently installed a new device (such as a microwave etc) that could interfere with the signal between them?
If you suspect distance or interference might be causing problems, try relocating your thermostat closer to the boiler. Ideally, wireless thermostats should be:
- Within the manufacturer's specified range (usually 30 metres, but walls reduce this significantly)
- Away from thick external walls or metal objects
- Not positioned directly next to other wireless devices like routers or microwaves
Sometimes, simply moving the thermostat can resolve error 1101.
